Big picture (vision)
I believe in coliving as the foundational atom of society, because it’s really lovely and there’s no better way to get a lot of lovely social time without friction / effort.
In the long term, I want to live together with a family of like minded people in a space just like this one. I am extremely extroverted and spend most of my life in the living room of this apartment. Introverts welcome.
The apartment
✋ 5 bedroom (plus a guest tent in the upstairs common area) - typically 5 occupants, has been up to 8 and still comfy!
🌊 2.5 bath (two full baths, one closet with a toilet — its handy!)
📍 right next to McCarren park (45s walk) and Fractal tech (~5 min walk)
🧺 in-building laundromat (haven’t had issues with congestion)
🌃 view of Manhattan skyline, rooftop access
✨ new building, we are the first occupants
🌸 historically and presently majority women
💖 frequent events, dinners, craft nights… come host!
Current long-term occupants
Chiaw : she studies fish behavior and welfare at NYU, vegan.
Jasmine: healer (chaplain) in training. Usually reading upstairs.
Iso: Likes math and tech. Also likes music and art.
Vish: works in tech; likes cooking, reading, journalling and exploring local mics in the area
Iggy (myself) : I'm a startup founder. upgrading the home is my main hobby.
We are high on organization and conscientiousness, low on procedure / rules

here is a somewhat outdated picture of our kitchen. idyllic, agree??
we have a shelf with a bunch of tools and adhesives etc on it. sorry that it looks bad but it is handy! i am constantly doing DIY stuff… such as the shelves on the wall on the left. i am proud of those. i try to use light colored woods as much as i can.
the two doors accessible in the living room are 🌴Palm room (Nov- onward) (left) and 🍃Leaf room ((right). The sound insulation in this apartment is pretty good and they have never complained about late night conversations and movies.

eli and ben are playing a videogame. typically you would be playing videogames with me as well, but i had to take the photo. note the console shelf i built behind the couch. i am very happy with it. also the custom controller holders!the kitchen storage is very optimizedwe have 1 full bathroom on each floor. they both basically look like this. fancy!we have a lot of plants! I use a drip irrigation system (the jug with tubes you can see). I grew some herbs in the window sill. This was very aesthetic but ultimately too annoying to deal with pests, so it’s gone now. You can also see the price gun that we use to date food in the fridge. Also you can see that it sometimes rains.view from roof
this is our 2.5th bathroom upstairs, it is just a toilet. i have outfitted it with custom steel shelving for economical storage. i am proud of this. if you are taller than 5’10” it may annoy you to use this toilet.
this is a 2 story apartment. in the upstairs common area we have a cute tent with a full size mattress. we put guests in it. they love it

this is what it looks like when chiaw happily sits on the couch with mr bear. the couch has an extra arm and shelf next to it now so if she were to do this today, she would be even more comfortable.

Mr bear sits on a couch. We usually do not have a gate up but in this picture we do. Note the nice relaxing lighting, the shelving on either side of the couch, the TV (it is on an arm and can be flat against the wall too)
i drew a procession of 3 guys and then shay added the mogger.
(shay has moved out and mogs in sf instead)
i have outfitted the hall / foyer in front of our apartment entrance with an acacia shoe rack, bench, mirror, and a nice entry rug. this is me (right) and jillian (left). we typically wear black and white when we go out.
(the landlord made us put this stuff in the apartment instead of having a beautiful tasteful foyer. also, jill moved out)
